The Venezuelan electoral authorities agreed to hold National Assembly elections in September 2010, although the date was December, putting pressure on the government of President Hugo Chavez and his opponents to select their candidates ahead of scheduled.
While the race was to be in December 2010, the national press speculated that the government would seek to advance it to hinder the realization of agreements between the divided opposition, which was confirmed with the announcement of the election authority no later than Wednesday.
The National Electoral Council (CNE) provided as the date of holding elections on September 26, 2010. The last legislative elections took place in December 2005 and the ruling party won 167 seats after the opposition withdrew before the voting bloc, accused the CNE to take sides by the Government. National legislative elections in Venezuela in 2010 will be held on September 26 to renew all the members of the National Assembly, this time will be 165 deputies, two seats less than in the 2005 election, and also elected 12 Deputies to the Latin American Parliament. Those elected will take office out on January 5, 2011 and remain in them until January 5, 2016.
The election shall be conducted under the premise of the MMP system, as the population base of 1.1% of total population. The federal agencies also elect three deputies, as well as all indigenous peoples have the right to elect three representatives nominated in the three special districts. They have a responsibility to represent the people and the States as a whole. This is the first election held in place while the Organic Law of Elections adopted by the National Assembly in 2009.
